Persistence is the Key to Success (Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – November 18, 2019)

This is the November 18, 2019, edition of my entrepreneur journal. You can find my previous journal entries here:

I had another productive week, especially on the Strength and Reason blog. I had to troubleshoot a technical issue and added some new functionality. In the end, I took a step forward, which is what I’m shooting for.

A friend gave me a great compliment on the blog this weekend. One small compliment is an amazing encouragement to keep pushing forward.

Garyvee said something interesting on his podcast. When he started as an entrepreneur, he looked at himself as a retailer. Later, as a marketer. Finally, he realized he is a storyteller. Strength and Reason is my story.

Income Stream 1: Strength and Reason

What I Accomplished This Week:

  1. I met my goal to post two articles a week. You can check them out here:
    1. So, I’m Getting Better at This Blogging Thing (Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – November 11, 2019)
    2. Why Reason is Important
  2. Some folks shared one of my posts on Facebook, which is great. Thanks to those who did so. Facebook used the banner image from the Strength and Reason homepage to go with the post. The banner isn’t formatted for Facebook, so Facebook cropped the image. The world ended up seeing a partial image and an unprofessional look.

I did some research and figured out a fix. You have to tell Facebook what image to use when someone shares a post. Who knew? Well, I do now, and so do you. The All in One SEO plugin that I use has built-in functionality for passing data to Facebook. So, I got the issue fixed.

  1. Since folks shared some posts on Facebook, I added social media buttons to the blog. These will make sharing easier. I’m using the Social Snap WordPress plugin. So far, so good.
  2. I worked through more lessons on Wealthy Affiliate[affiliate link]. I’m through 3 modules, with 2 to go. WA has been a great resource for getting Strength and Reason going.
  3. I put a post on IG to get more people to Strength and Reason. The post got some likes and I got some new IG followers, but it didn’t send any new visitors to the blog.

To-Do Next Week:

  1. Post this journal entry: Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – November 18, 2019.
  2. Post second weekly article. This one is about logical fallacies.
  3. Work on the Best of the Best page.
  4. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I’m going to enlist my GF to snap a few pics of me to post on my About page. I’ll put on a suit to prove I clean up well.
  5. Wealthy Affiliate[affiliate link] has an affiliate program. I’m going to work on a review post for WA.

What I Learned:

  1. So far, most Strength and Reason visitors have been friends and family. That’s great, but I’m going to need to do more to promote the blog. Although I don’t have a lot of content yet, it’s better to start the promotion process early.
  2. I’m struggling with the self-promotion thing. It’s going to push me far out of my comfort zone. It’s something I’m going to have to stop making excuses for and do it. Remember: Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone.

Income Stream 2: Ecommerce

What I Accomplished This Week:

  1. Freedom Ticket training.

To-Do Next Week:

  1. I plan to spend at least one day doing product research.
  2. Continue with Freedom Ticket training.

What I Learned:

  1. I need to work on time management to make sure I keep each of my income streams moving forward.

Income Stream 3: Gig Work

What I Accomplished This Week:

  1. I got back on Field Agent to look for some gigs. Nothing jumped out at me, but I’m going to check it at least once a day.

To-Do Next Week:

  1. Sign up for Wag.

What I Learned:

  1. I need to work on time management to make sure I keep each of my income streams moving forward.

Remember: Persistence is the Key to Success

So far, I’m enjoying working on this blog. It’s great to have a place to express my thoughts. Pushing myself out of my comfort zone is already proving invaluable. “Get comfortable being uncomfortable” are words we must keep in mind as we go about our lives.

The key is to keep after it. Work a little bit every day, and it’s amazing what you can produce.
