Entrepreneur Journal

Does This Make Me a Real Live Professional Blogger Now? (Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – November 4, 2019)

This is my third entrepreneur journal entry. You can find my first two journal entries here:

I did a little better with dividing my attention between projects this week, but the blog still took a disproportionate amount of time.

Income Stream 1: Strength and Reason

What I Accomplished this Week:

  1. I had another good week with Strength and Reason. I accomplished my goal for two posts a week. You can check them out here:
    1. Where I Confirm that I’m Not Good at Time Management (Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – October 28, 2019)
    2. Why You Need to be Responsible for Your Own Success (My Rant About Why I Only Fly First Class)
  2. Best of the Best Page:
    1. I started putting together a resources page called “Best of the Best.”
    2. This is where I’ll post my favorite books, podcasts, supplements, and whatever else. I’m still working on it, but plan to have it up in the next two weeks.
  3. Email List:
    1. I set up an email sign up through Mailchimp.
    2. I chose Mailchimp because it’s free to start. This will give me time to start building an email list without incurring any additional expenses. When the day comes, and it will come, that I have the volume to move to a paid account, I’ll probably reevaluate my options.
    3. Mailchimp made setting up the popup to register for my email list spectacularly easy. I found some tutorials online to walk me through the process. It appears, however, that Mailchimp updated its interface since the authors published those posts, so they weren’t much help. It didn’t matter. Once I got my Mailchimp account set up, the website walked me through everything I needed to do, so I had the popup working in about 20 minutes.
  4. Amazon Associates:
    1. I signed up for Amazon Associates. This is Amazon’s affiliate program.
    2. I went back through my blog posts to add my Amazon Associate links to books I’ve mentioned. These were mostly in my The 5 Factors of Success (My Success Equation) post.
    3. Maybe it’s my over-developed sense of justice, but I believe transparency is of paramount importance. As a result, I don’t like it when a website isn’t open about serving up affiliate links, so, I tagged my affiliate links with an [affiliate link] superscript.
  5. I worked through a few more lessons on Wealthy Affiliate. So far, WA has been a great resource for getting Strength and Reason going.

To Do Next Week:

  1. Post this journal entry: Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – November 4, 2019.
  2. Post my second weekly article.
  3. In last week’s journal, I listed “IG post to let people know that Strength and Reason is live” as a to-do. After thinking about it, I decided to postpone the IG posts and first focus on getting the email list registration set up. Since I finished that last week, I’m going to work on the IG posts this week.
  4. Work on the Best of the Best page.
  5. Now that I have the email list going, I need to put together a weekly email template. Mailchimp has tools to get that going. I’ve started playing with those tools. So far, it looks like it’s going to take more effort than the email list, but still straight forward.
  6. Wealthy Affiliate has its own affiliate program. I’m going to work on a review post for WA and get Strength and Reason set up to be an affiliate. Of course, I’ll go back and mark all my links to WA as affiliate links.

What I Learned:

    1. So far, most Strength and Reason visitors have been friends and family. That’s great, but I’m going to need to do more to promote the blog. Although I don’t have a lot of content yet, it’s probably better to start the promotion process early.
    2. I’m an introvert, so the thought of self-promotion is daunting. It’s going to push me farther out of my comfort zone than I thought when I started.
    3. It’s still taking me too long to write blog posts but it’s getting easier. This project is going to be a test of patience.

Income Stream 2: Ecommerce

What I Accomplished this Week:

  1. Freedom Ticket training.

To Do Next Week:

  1. I plan to spend at least one day doing product research.
  2. Continue with Freedom Ticket training.

What I Learned:

  1. I need to work on time management to make sure I keep each of my income streams moving forward.

Income Stream 3: Gig Work

What I Accomplished this Week:

  1. No progress on gig work this week.

To Do Next Week:

  1. Sign up for Wag.

What I Learned:

  1. I need to work on time management to make sure I keep each of my income streams moving forward.

In Conclusion

Overall, I had another good week of progress on Strength and Reason. I figure that once I finish getting the weekly automated email setup and the Best of the Best page put together, then I can shift some time away from the blog to other projects The good news is that I pulled in my first commissions through sales on Amazon, so I guess I’m a real, professional blogger now.
