Where I Confirm that I’m Not Good at Time Management (Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – October 28, 2019)

Adventure, Journal, Map

This is my second entrepreneur journal entry. As I mentioned in my first journal entry from last week, I guessed that trying to split my time between three income streams would present some problems. Turns out I was right.

Income Stream 1: Strength and Reason

What I Accomplished this Week:

  1. I had a lot of success with Strength and Reason last week. My goal is to post two articles a week, which I did. You can check them out here:
    1. Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – October 20, 2019
    2. The 5 Factors of Success (My Success Equation)
  2. I also did some blog maintenance:
    1. Optimized all of the images to improve load time.
    2. Installed the W3 Total Cache WordPress plugin which cache’s blog data to further improve performance.
    3. Set up Google Analytics to measure blog traffic.
  3. Finally, I signed up with Wealthy Affiliate[affiliate link] earlier this summer. WA is an online training and community that teaches affiliate marketing. I’m using WA’s training to build this blog and get it set up to start earning affiliate commissions. This past week, I worked through another group of lessons. Right now, I’m about 40% through the training.

To Do Next Week:

  1. Post this journal entry: Strength and Reason Entrepreneur Journal – October 28, 2019.
  2. Finish writing and post the second weekly article.
  3. Instagram posts to let people know that Strength and Reason is live. I don’t have many followers on IG, but I’m interested to see if I can drive any traffic to the blog through IG.

What I Learned:

  1. Going into this project, I knew that I would have to learn about SEO and blog optimization. While I implemented a couple of easy changes to improve blog performance, there is a lot more that I need to do. Specifically, I learned:
    1. How to optimize images to increase blog performance and
    2. How to cache my website to increase blog performance using a WordPress plugin.
  2. Although I’m having fun writing Strength and Reason, it’s taking me a long time to write each blog post. I’ve broken the writing task down into several sub-tasks which I’m tracking my time on. As I work through each blog post, I’m on the lookout for opportunities to increase efficiency. Of course, the most efficiency gains will likely come as I get better at writing.

Income Stream 2: Ecommerce

What I Accomplished this Week:

  1. Like I mentioned in the beginning of this post, I didn’t do a good job of dividing my effort between my income streams. What that means is that I didn’t accomplish anything on my ecommerce business this week.

To Do Next Week:

  1. My first task is product research. I’ve been using the Just One Dime program to develop a private label product to sell on Amazon. I’ve done all of the training up to the product research step. Now, it’s a matter of using the Just One Dime methodology to find a good product to move forward with. My task next week is to continue with product research.
  2. My second task is another training called Freedom Ticket. Freedom Ticket is included free with a Helium 10 account so I’m doing that training alongside the Just One Dime training. I thinks it’s always valuable to learn different ways of doing the same thing so I have options as I work through the process. While I’m spending a lot of time on training, I think it will pay off on the back end. Remember, a big part of success is patience.

What I Learned:

  1. I need to work on time management to make sure I keep each of my income streams moving forward.

Income Stream 3: Gig Work

What I Accomplished this Week:

  1. Similar to my discussion under the ecommerce section above, I didn’t make any progress on gig work this week.

To Do Next Week:

  1. Sign up for Wag.

What I Learned:

  1. Same as above, I need to work on time management to make sure I keep each of my income streams moving forward.

Verdict: Not a Perfect Week, But a Good Week

Overall, I had a good week in that I made solid progress on Strength and Reason. I imagine the blog will take up most of my time next week as well, but I’m going to make sure that I do some work on my other income streams.
